When, where, and why did you learn to? I learned how to use chopsticks to impress a guy I liked. He was really into Asian cuisine, and I didn't want to look dumb by using a fork while he ate with chopsticks.

I was probably around 8 or 9. We would eat at a little Chinese restaurant and I wanted to eat my rice like David Carradine in Kung Fu. DS is 14 months and uses a chopstick to slide food off my plate when we go out! :-)

That's a fun story. It's great how kids want to learn the things they see sometimes.

The only thing I can do with a chop stick is make a mess. I finally get so hungry that I go grab a fork and eat it that way. I know it is done all the time but I just cannot master the use of chop sticks at all. My nephew makes it look so simple.

I've learned to use it because we have lots of chinese influences in terms of foods, we have appreciated it eversince. We have a lot of noodles and dimsums here and chinese restaurants that serves, specializes in asian cuisine. Chopsticks are always given to have a feeling of somehow being in China, and it's really great to learn and use it.

I was young, maybe about 10. I was in a chinese restaurant with my parents who both know how to use them. The waiter brought me out a 'training' pair. Basically chopsticks attached together by a special rubber band. And the waiter showed me how. I still remember that. And I can use them no problem today. Although I still prefer the standard fork. Just easier.

I've actually started enjoying using chopsticks...I guess it's a little more challenging than a fork. Mentally stimulating, maybe.

I can't and it drives my husband crazy. He was really good friends with a Korean family and not only did he learn alot from them but they also gave us a set of chopsticks that are metal and have a case and these big spoons that go with them. I wish I knew how to use them. The fact that I have never found any Asian food that I like could be why I still don't know how to use them :-)

I have a few really nice pairs of chopsticks that my grandfather got when he was in the Marines...they're beautiful.

LOL i think that's one good reasons to learn too. Well as for me i learned to use chopsticks when i was in the primary school. There are a lot of chinese stall in the canteen and of cause it's really awkward for the first time but hey, practice makes perfect right? I usually use chopsticks when eating noodles. Hope you trying to impress the guys works *chuckle*

It's a little awkward at first, but with practice it gets a lot easier.
