What do you do for a young child afraid of the dark?

I was afraid of the dark when I was a child, and I can remember my mum giving me a nightlight with My Little Pony on it. It only gave out a little bit of light, but it was very comforting. Try finding one that has characters the child likes on them. Finding out why the child is scared of the dark might help - you can do things like open cupboards and look under the bed for monsters. Leaving the landing light on, with their bedroom door slightly ajar might help.
