A computer is a machine for manipulating data according to a list of instructions. Or in other way, a programmable machine which responds to a specific set of instructions in a well-defined manner. Hope this is clear to you now.

Just break the word computer in to two syllables and you will get the answer. Compute + er. It is nothing but a machine that coomputes, that is, processes, calculates, etc. How does it do it, that will be your second question I guess. :)

Computer is an electronic device which performs arithmetic operations like additon,subtraction,division and multiplication and logical operations like and, or operations.

"a device that computes , especially a programmable electronic mechanical machine that performs high speed mathematical or logical operations or that assembles , stores, correlates, or otherwise process information." i hope this proper definition would be suffice..... Happy Posting...
