I do not know of a place for free gum or patches, but i can tell you how i managed to stop smoking 2 and a half year ago. I smoked between 20 and 30 cigs a day for 17 years. I was always making sure i had enough cigs and i avoided places where I could not smoke. I never managed to even cut down on the numbers of cigs when I tried to quit. I thought I needed far more will power than I had to be able to stop. then I heard about a book by Allen Carr that made people stop without problems. i thought this was just not possible, so I got the book to see what it was all about. I finished it in about 36 hours. then I quit smoking, and has not had another cig since. And the best part is: It was so easy! It took no willpower! I found the way that was right for me at the time and succeded. Good luck in besoming a non-smoker, no matter how you go about doing it!
