Does how you dress effect the atmosphere in your Work Place?

I have worked at places where strict dress codes are still adhered to and other places where once strict dress codes gave way to casual fridays and then became completely lax all the way around. Personally I prefer a professional atmosphere with people dressed up. I know personally I am in a different frame of mind when I take the extra time in my personal presentation. Same as when I go shopping I dress up. I get way better service from the staff. (of course I am not talking walmart here!)

I have worked in a place with a dress code that favored the men over the women. Men were forbidden to wear muscle shirts but tank tops were ok. That was about the only restriction they had. Girls could not wear any straps on their tops that were less than 3 fingers wide unless it was covered by a blouse or sweater. Girls shorts and skirts had to be no more than three inches above the knee. Open toed shoes were forbidden for women. People actually got sent home to change and to me it was amazing they ever came back. The kicker was this was in a telephone call center where the customers and clients never saw us. We were told that if we dressed professional we would sound more professional on the phone. I think that's bull. If store staff treats you different because of the way you dress, they should be shot.

I guess I never worked in a place that paid enough to warrant being dressed up, if I had a good job I would certainly want to dress the part, I guess it would affect the mood a little.

i understand and totally agree with what you said,,, it needs a professional touch for sure ... for men i dont add Tie as i think that is too much ... but personally i believe in order to maintain oneself in a professional way.. one will need to be dressed in entirely professinal manner... sid
