Open Mouth, Insert Foot-Have you ever said something you wish you hadn't?

Have you ever had one of those moments where you just siad something and wished for the ground to open up and swallow you whole? *raises hand* I sure have and boy was I mortified: During my second pregnancy I was working as a hostess at Red Lobster. I was obviously pregnant (read as: big as a house!) and was drawn to other pregnant women. I was seating this middle aged couple and noticed that she looked about 5/6 moonths pregnant. I said "When is your baby due?" With an icy stare, and between clenched teeth declaired "I'm NOT pregnant!" At this point I wanted to drop through the floor, but couldn't. I settled for sputtering an nearly inaudible "I'm so sorry" and sat her and her husband at their table. Worst foot in mouth moment in my life!

I have put my foot in my mouth before. The last time I remember is I was talking on the phone with someone at work and they asked me a question and I said "yes sir". Well they said "and by the way it is not sir it is ma'am". my face turned bright red and I apologized. Her voice was so deep and raspy that I thought for sure it was a male. Now if I am not sure if it is a male or female on the phone I do not say ma'am or sir. I just say yes or no.

I do that kind of thing all the time! I try to think before I speak, but sometimes something stupid slips past. I never ask a woman who far along she is unless she's so big that its obviously very soon. I'm always afraid of what happened to you. :)

LOL what can you do?? It happens. I am sure that one has happened to many people. Sometimes it's hard to tell. She could have just laughed it off though. I have done this many times. The mouth spits it out before the brain thinks about it. My 18 year old gets mad at me sometimes for doing this. Now I try so hard to watch what I say but there are still slip ups.
