If you take a deeper look at Emily you will see that she is genuinely a caring person in terms of family. She has a very strange way of showing how much she cares and I think that as much as she annoys and disappoints Lorelei, they have an understanding of each other (they're both crazy). I personally have a similar relationship with my mother, only Emily Gilmore would fear my mother.

I was so happy when she was being nice, She was also very drunk! but she was nice, I knew it wouldn't last though.

I liked the episode. I was surprised that Emily let her guard down when she got drunk. I thought wow she was finaly being a mother. Then the next morning when she was not longer feeling good she seemed to take it out on Loreli. I feel really bad for Loreli though. I don't think Emily knows how to be a mother. This might be the reason Loreli is a good mom.
I also enjoyed the fact that Luke is thinking about Loreli.

my mother is exactly like emily. that's why i love the show so much. my mother and i have the ssame relationship as loralei and emily have and i hope to have the same realtionship with my daughter as loralei and rory have.

Actually I thought it was a brilliant episode. What I got from the scenes with Emilly was that the drunker she got, and her inhibitions dropping you saw not only her caring but total admiration for her daughter. She comes from an era where her role as a woman, wife and mother was defined.. what came out was how Lorelai didn't need to fit any or all of those expectations and even a little envy at all of Lorelai's success.
The next morning, with her inhibitions back.. she went back to her programming of what expectations of her and her life are to be.

Sad part is they do have parents in the world like Emily and worst then her. Trust me I know from friends paretns and from my own step mom
