Thankfully I haven't lost any files or data to a virus, but yes, I've had virus attacks before and my anti virus detected it! A virus mainly spreads through shared media like CD's that were burnt on an infected computer or through email attachements and don't crop up on their own from inside the PC. So as a precaution, whenever you share some media scan it before you access it.

i have experienced virus many time my system. But i have not lost any file. One virus which i recevied from my friend's Pen drive due to which my system system start evrytime when i go to command prompt. It remove my folder options and i am not able to edit my registry setting. I was not able to run any program so to remove these virus i used Norton and i got success. Norton is the best antivus ever but it consumes system resources.

all you have to do is just install a antivirus program. i recommend norton antivirus any version starting from 2001 will do. update it and scan through your whole system. it will remove all of your virus that attached inside your document file without removing it. some of the free antivirus software will actually just delete the document file without trying to clean it.
