I almost had a heart attack this morning. I opened my cable/internet/cellphone bill and it was just over 700 dollars. This is about 300 dollars more than it should be. Well both my daughter had gone over their minutes and one over their text messaging. My youngest had used almost 700 daytime minutes. We only get 300 shared minutes between 4 cell phones. Okay I feel better I have ranted now. Do any of you have problems with your kids do this with their cell phones?

My kids are too young for the cell phones. They are 1 and 2. Maybe you could get the unlimited texting. I think it's $5 more a month and then maybe you can talk to the phone company and when they go over an allotted amount of minutes their phone is done or something like that. That is crazy.

That was whooping bill you had there linda! Oh gosh! I can really made a month budget with that lol! I'm only spending around $10 for my cellphone expense for we have cheap service here and I'm a prepaid sim holder I deactivated my plan because if you are on a plan you can't control the usage of your cellphone. Is there any prepaid sim in your country? Maybe it's better for children to have limit in thier usage or have a certain budget so that you will not be over bill.

I never thought to ask rogers, that once the maximum minutes for plan have been hit to shut down all phones for the rest of the month. I am locked into the plan for 3 years.

They will be losing their phones if they keep it up. I will just pay the basic rate and their phones will be blocked.

Nope because my son pays his own bill. You shouldn't of had them on your plan to begin with. You are only asking for trouble.

They have been on my plan since they where younger and didn't have jobs. It is very hard to breakup a family plan.

Well great! If they have jobs, then they should have to pay the overages :)

My gosh, that is high. How can it be that high? Was it using the internet? Cause that really racks up the minutes. Man, I would have had a heart attack too. Argh.

Daytime minutes, it is like 40cents a minute when you go over.

Yes I think this is pretty conman. We had to take our sons cell away from him after he went way over his limit. When he was younger her also did this with our pay preview TV our bill came in for one month at $265.00 we hit the roof. All kids seem to be like this they seem to have no concept of money. Our son is 20 now and we remind him of some of this he understands now.

Wow your kids are lucky to all have their own cellphones. My son is only four but I'm sure one day he will ask for one, and when that day comes, he better be ready to pay for it himself. I can't afford to pay $700 in cell phone bills... how do you do it?!?

Lets say I had to make payment arrangements with the company. Usually they are not that high. I also changed my plan so this wont happened again.

Well I don't as they are old enough to pay for their own and we are all on pay as you go none of us have a contract Phone. So we do not have this problem once we have used up the money we either put nore money on or do without.

I am locked into a stupid 3 year plan. So I have to pay on the phones until then. I changed the plans so I hopefully won't have this happen again. I now pay 20 dollars more a month but have 850 minutes durning the day I think. That is from the top of my head. I would have to look it up to be sure.

Wow! Have you taken their phones away yet? If it were me, they would never get them back. It seems that kids have a very hard time realizing that they need to limit their cellphone usage. I have similar difficulty with my teenaged daughter. I purchased here a prepaid cellphone that I can control completely through the cellphone company's website. She has to earn money for her minutes through chores. Once she gets a real job, she can add as much time to the phone as she wishes. For right now, she has to budget the time, which I think is a good learning experience for her.

I have always been a pushover with my kids. I have always thought that because of my bipolar I had to make things up to them in other ways, hence a cellphone. And I could go on all day but I won't.

Yes, my daughter went over her minutes once! Needless to say I was going to take her phone away. I think it was just the threat that I was going to that made her stop and think about it. If you need too, take them away for a day and let them think about that. It should only take one day and I'm sure they would get the point! Ask them if they would like them taken away for a month after that. You should review your plan, kids like texting ALOT! I added unlimited texting to her line not mine. Another thing is maybe you can up your minutes for the shared lines. But upgrading to the texting plan has really saved me alot of money.

Thanks for the ideas. I have to do something. I can't afford a bill like this every month.
