Love fishing but scared of west nile virus

Hi, I love fishing but recently in the past few years there have been so many cases of west nile virus (I'm from Colorado) that I am scared to go. My co-worker got a mosquito bite on his back while going to his car and he became sick for 3 weeks with severe pain in his back and hips. I use mosquito spray but am still scared to getting the virus. Anybody have tips for this as I'd love for fish again past dusk -- I like to catch Bass and catfish and I love to eat it too.
