would you ever pick up a hitch hiker. if not why not. would it depend if it was a male or female and where you where? i don't think i ever would. i don't feel safe anymore in this world. but my aunt was stranded once and a man picked her up. he made her undress to make sure she wasn't hiding any weapons. (at least that's what he said, lol).

I live in a state where the crime rate is out the roof. I would never pick up a hitch hiker. It is too dangerous. It is a shame that you have to be so affraid to offer help to someone because they will turn on you and you are the one who gets hurt.

It is awful that we can't trust people enough anymore to be able to help someone else out but I wouldn't be able to pick up a hitchhiker unless it was someone I knew as I have to think not only about myself anymore but of my children and just can't take the chance . We live in a safe area but yet I still don't feel comfortable about something like this as I have read to many books and seen too much on t.v about being getting hurt as a result of this . I remember last year seeing someone hobbling on the road and when I went by I could see him mouth out please help me and yet couldn't stop because he was a big man and all I kept thinking was how easy that would be to get someone to stop and by pretending to be hurt . For the next week , I felt sick to my stomach and had a headache that I didn't stop to help someone that might have been in need out . In the end I heard that there had been a guy pretending to be hurt to catch a drive but I never found out for sure if it was him , the description fit but that doesn't mean anything for sure . I just won't ever forget that horrible week thinking that someone might have needed my help and yet my fear kept me from stopping because I had my two babies in the back of my van with me .

I don't think I'd pick up a hitch hiker, nor would I personally hitch hike unless it was absolutely necessary. It doesn't tend to happen that much in the UK anyway, to my knowledge. I wouldn't feel safe letting a stranger, man or woman, into my car, and I wouldn't want to get into a car with a stranger.

I think its way too risky for any man let alone a woman. I always think about that film "The Hitcher"

I do not offer any hitch ride, if am driving my vehcile, even if it is asked for, irrespective of the fact whether it is a female or a male. Such is the enviornment now a days in big Metro cities, one never knows who is a genuine person and who is not. Therefore, it is better to be safe than feel sorry later. I may be having noble intentions of helping someone, however, the other fellow may not be having noble intentions like me.
