Recommendations for parents of Infants or Toddlers

As far as entertainment and educational DVDs, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. My son is absolutely fascinated by They Might Be Giant's: "Here Come the ABCs" and it is very educational. It has great graphics and can even hold an adult's attention for a long time. Not to mention it has enough variety in ti that you don't get tired of watching it over and over like the toddler is inclined to do. I would recommend against buying Baby Mozart from Baby Einstein though. While it does keep his interest, it doesn't seem to teach anything at all and as a parent, I can only stand to hear the music about 3 times in a row before I have to shut it off with much crying ensuing. What about ones you have seen? Recommendations?

Barney and Elmo are both very helpful in teaching behavior and more classical education. Those two characters and Clifford seem to hold my son's complete undivided attention for long periods of time (which for a two year old is not a small feat).

yeah i wanted to buy the they might be giants. i got the album, but not the DVD. but the baby motzart shouldn't be but down all that much. i know the point and its not a teaching tool, but sort of an enlightening tool. the complicated rythems of the music is supposed to stimuate the young babies brain. these are normally for little infants. the same can also be said about metallica as well. because of the complicated guitar rifs and rythems, it will stimulate the childs brain in about the same way. funny isn't it. some of the DVD;s i like are the Little Eintiens series..they love it on disney and the love the DVD as well. and my little ones love the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse now. I also wanted to get the Ralphs World DVD & CD's and also the Imagination Movers, those guys are featured on Disney channel a lot and i was thinking about buying their albums for my boys.

I understand it is supposed to stimulate them, but alot of those theories are based on a study where some students listened to classical while testing, some listened to rock, and some had silence. That one study has lead to a lot of "classical music makes you smarter". Really the biggest problems I have with it is: 1) as a parent, you just can't keep watching it over and over without twitching and 2) my son loses interest in it now that he is 2-yrs-old (but we still aren't allowed to turn it off without facing the wrath of the toddler). As a toddler it wasn't so bad because we could turn it off when we wanted. We have bought and been given many different movies and programs for our little guy and They Might e Giants just blows the others out of the water on all levels.

the twitching...hahaha yeah i know how that feels. i did have a tape my cousin gave me that was a teach your baby to read and everything. my kid was not interested in it, but her little girl learned from it. we watched it everyday for a few months and i was about to lose my MIND!!! and i think they also did studies on children with the classical and rock music as well, not just students although i do know classical music only helps you study because its supposed to be a calming type. but i do notice my kids pay attention to heavy rock with complicated tunes...which is really interesting. my son when he was about 2 had this facination with 1 rock song and kept telling me, play it again. and out of the 2 of them..he's the 'thinker' of the group.

While I like Motzart, the mix on the Baby Motzart DVDs makes it so that I can only listen to it about three times in a row as well. Our son is actually learning the ABCs from TMBG and is singing along with the DVD.
