So over in the thermostat thread I have realized that keeping my house so chilly I can see my exhalations is probably excessive. But I'm propably not the only one who does things like this.... What do you do to save a dime?

Well I turn up the temperature on the fridges and freezer so they aren't as cold. I also turn down the temperature on the hot water heater. It makes a big difference, even just a couple of degrees. We also turn off any lights not needed right then. Turn the heat down a bit or the a/c up and adjust our clothing for it. Each little bit saves a lot.

Our new dryer doesn't have a timed setting for heat drying (only has less dry, more dry, and higher settings - I guess if you want to bake your clothing). So I sat down one day and figured out if I set it on regular heat how long it actually takes to dry the clothes. I would set the time for 10 minutes then stop the dryer and check the clothing. It took about 40 minutes. Even on the lowest selection (less dry) the dryer was running about 15 times longer than it needed! I am also known for driving a minute or two out of the way for the cheapest gas.
