Some teachers think too much of themselves...

I had an odd experience in 7th grade. I was living in Mexico at the time, but I knew English better than anyone would over there because I had lived in the US since I was in 3rd grade. In the English class, which bored me, I used to unconciously correct the teacher in class. And what did he do?, he tried to fail me and get me kicked out of the school. No one would get a perfect grade in that class, because he reserved that for himself. Of course, I didn't get expelled, it wasn't against the rules to correct the teacher in class and humiliation wasn't too strong of a cause to do so. Plus I never did it on purpuse, maybe that's why I never made it to the top three. Has anyone else had an experience like this?

I have noticed that the teachers who do this are those who have no sufficient knowledge of the subject matter they are teaching. Those english teachers who are quite handicapped to handle the subject, gets easily irritated if they find out that there is somebody in the class who knows better. For them, teacher is always the most knowledgeable one even if it is not so. And they do everything they can to put this student down - even to go to lengths of humiliating the student. You'll be sure you'll get the lowest grade he can possibly give. So keep hold of all those test papers and written quizzes so you can question the grades he gives you at the proper time. There was a teacher in mathematics I had the bad luck of having enrolled under him. I never worried about getting bad grades under him considering that I figured perfect scores in most of the written examinations and I always participated in classwork. Much to my surprise, I got a barely passing mark. I confronted him about it, he said he is sorry for having had my being in the dean's list and my scholarship brought at the brink. He said that the fault was mine because I didn't inform him of my academic standing in school. His method of giving grades is a matter only of passing and failing marks. For me, all those people who has got this kind of attitude should keep off the field of education. They are doing so much harm to the academic world rather than render it some good.

Well there are just some teachers who have some personality issues. Either they are just too insecure to accept the fact that some students do get better than them or their ego just go way up to their heads that they cannot accept the fact that they do commit mistakes sometimes. Being older and more mature than their students, teachers should have this humility and understanding towards students who do excel however assertive they are. Being wiser that they are, they should guide these students' potentials towards good and not get insecured instead.

You might have humiliated your teacher by correcting him in front of your classmates. It was an insult to him that his student will correct him in front of other students. It lessens his credibility. It is true that teachers think too much of themselves. I believe so because I have met a lot of teachers and they have the same aura - too much self-esteem. Even now that I'm already working I sense the pride of teachers over other workers. In my work, I encounter teachers from different schools. These teachers are authors of the publication where I work. Thing is, if you go over the manuscript they submitted you will see a lot of errors, not only in spelling but also in grammar. But if you bring the mistake to their attention, they would not accept that they have been mistaken.

yeah that is a bad thing ... I thin your teacher had probably not completly mastered the subject and knew it but he couldn't stand being corrected by a student ... I think it took it as an insult that ne of his pupil could know more than him when he is supposed to be the teacher and know more !!! A lot of poeple can't stand being confronted to their weaknesses especially when it is n their work filed ! and it is not only teachers ... you never had a boss who knew less than you ?? but he's still the boss so he doesn't want the other employees to notice it because he's the one in charge ... well same for that teacher But not all teachers are like that

My forth grade teacher hated me. On the last day they were handing sheets out to people who might be moving. The teacher asked me if i was going to move. When i answered no, she was furious. She asked me again : ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE NOT GOING TO MOVE?

Our old math teacher didn't mind being corrected to much. He had a good sence of humor about it. In fact he bought us pizza if we did it enough times. If we could prove he did something wrong on the board 10 times in a quarter he would buy the class pizza. I caught him one time because he took a negitive times a negitive and he kept it as a negitive.

My brother had a teacher that was truly full of herself! She would teach a class and then somehow get into the subject of herself and tell them stories all about herself and what she likes and how she grew up...etc. He even knew the teacher's bra size! Now there is something disturbing about a 7 year old who knows his teachers bra size but cant tell you the capital of the state he lives in! Needless to say my parents were very angry because she was failing him and they went to the principal about it. She was just as arrogant as the teacher was.

yeah.. im experiencing... but i cant come 5to a blind conclusion that all teachers do behave like this there are some people who do as you said, actually there is no point in discouraging the students those who correct the teachers when are to be... even one of my classmate has been failed in his final exam... but they dont undersatnd its life of a student,, they simply play with others life...!!! but in other hand ive seen teachers admt their mistakes when they go wrong and if they are corrected by their students.. they feel proud about it...!!!

I've experienced this during the time I was in a government-sponsored school here in the Philippines. I had to endure 4 years of my high-school life with the same english teacher who pronounces "pen" as "pin". You could see how much I loath her when she corrections my english pronounciation, and to think that I was educated in a very prestigious elementary school here where we were feed english grammar and pronounciation everyday. Good thing the principal noticed the lack of training we got and fired the teacher just when I was leaving the school :D

Not quite like that, but similar. I had an english teacher, who would give us examples of her papers. And I would always surpass her in staying on topic, and witty writing style. I admit I had some trouble with spelling and grammer, but I always put the papers through a spell check. So I was aways suprised when she attacked my every detail where kids with not even half average papers were getting a's.

I had teachers in the past, especially during my elementary days, who pronounced and spelled some words wrong. Usually, they didn't want to be corrected. My mother used to be an English teacher and she had been tutoring us on how to read, pronounce, and spell at such a young age. One time, I corrected my teacher and she got angry at me. She took it personally that she would always humiliate me in the class for the very little things. This went on for that entire school year. The following year, I was very happy that she wasn't my teacher anymore. I never told my mom about the experience. Good thing I didn't get traumatized or anything.

Some people think just because they know something that makes him owner of the truth. Socrates said "that what I don't know, I don't think I know". And thats the best answer you can give to someone who is not willing to learn. The problem is that this happens every where, not only in schools. It happened to me at work where I was trying to explain something and was called attention for that.

One day the teacher got upset with the class in grade seven(yes,we were acting up) and decided to put a math question on the board that when SOMEONE got it right,we woild be allowed to go home. However, the teacher said right out that I was not allowed to answer the question. After about 15 minutes,he finally told me I could go up to the board and answer it,which I did.I was singled out because the year previous,I won the award as the top math student in our school and he wanted to teach us a lesson.
