How Do You Think of the Staff

I was just wondering how you think of the staff when you go to a hotel or resort? Are they something to be seen only when your needs are attended to and you don't want them in sight otherwise? Would you be upset if the person who checked you in was staying at the resort and you saw them the next morning in their pajamas at breakfast? I always saw staff as people first and have always tried to be friendly and courteous. I don't feel they are a target for anything and everything that goes wrong. It wouldn't bother me if they were staying at the resort. In fact, I would probably think that is pretty cool.

As long as staff in a hotel are around when you need them and they are doing their job properly I have no complaints, I always liked to have a chat with them, most often they are nice people, I hate those grumpy people who think that they bought the hotel and want everyone to run for their commands, hotel people have to deal with a lot of freaks and idiots most of the time and their job is not easy, I mostly finds them helpful and friendly when you are away from home and need info, directions or just friendly chat about the city/country you are in.

I like to have staff within site so that if I have a question or do need them I can find them easily. I don't want them in my room or anything just hanging out ~ lol ~ but it makes a difference if I can contact someone at the desk right away from my room, or find a staff member out by the pool etc without having to hunt somebody down. I don't know about the PJ thing at breakfast though - how would I know they were on duty? If they had a tag on so I knew they worked there I'd expect them to be dressed too as they would be on duty. I've been to resorts during holidays and different event and the staff have dressed to the occasion. I've been to a resort one time where the hotel did a storytime/bedtime story event for the kids and they staff dressed in PJ's, but that was the theme.

I think that the staff is the most essential part of hotel operations. I've stayed at 5 star properties with horrible service and I've stayed at 3 star properties with exceptional service. I would take the 3 star property with service any day over the impersonal 5 star property. I will say that the best service I received was at the Miramonte Resort in Indian Wells, CA in which I was greeted 5 times by the staff before I even reached the front desk to check in. That in itself made for a lovely stay.
