Can career be an obstacle in the relationship of a womans life????

We often see women tacking a backseat in their careers once they get married or have children.What is the reason for this?Is this just a social stigma, or the opinion the managing household sole activity of women?I agree that today most household chores are shared my men too, but some where down the line women seem to have to choose between career and family, what do u think?
