When the prices of fuel went up last year my husband and I got very concerned. At that time we heated our house with propane. In October I was sent a notice that the proposed budget for the next year had doubled and may go higher. This meant we would be spending more than $300.00 a month just to heat our house. This was not something we could easily afford to do. We researched altenate forms of heating. Pea coal stoves and wood burning stoves and woodpellet burning stoves. We found that the wood pellet stove does not require a chimney to run. We also found that the wood pellet stove to be very efficeint burning. We purchased the stove and are very happy with it last year we did not spend $50.00 a month on pellets so I think the stove has paid for itself the first year. and now we continue to save money. My house is so warm I have to open windows. I highly recommend it. the stove we purchased also will burn corn.

the new wood pellet stoves are now approved for single wide mobile homes and appartments because you don't have to have a chimney. You only need to vent it to the outside which is about a hole in the wall abut 3 inches in diamiter. but your right landlords can be a problem. Caroline

It seems that when pellet stoves first became popular, many people in our area purchased them. Last winter,I noticed that you could find them for sale everywhere.Nobody wanted them any longer. Seems that when the power goes off, so does the fan on the stove and they were much more expensive to use than they thought they were going to be when the temperatures got below 0. Seems people around here are turning to the outdoor heating stoves. They heat their water and they burn wood, magazines or anything else. They have a thermastate to control the heat. We personally heat with coal. My husband works for a coal mine so our coal does not cost us anything. We get so much for free each year. We love it and we cook on it also. Food is so good cooked on a coal stove.

I have never heard of wood pellet stoves. Is it very practical? Saving money is so essential, especially with the rising cost of fuel and gas. I would love to find better alternatives, I'm just not sure how they would fit into my daily routine.
