what doesn't kill you but makes you stronger?

this question applies to many things actually. i'd say one thing that doesn't kill me but made me stronger is Faith. last year june, my mother found out that she has breast cancer. i was so helpless at that time because she was working abroad and i thought it's the worst thing that has ever happened to me. i guess that made me friends with the Lord again. i started keeping the faith and now, i always pray that she'll be well. miraculously, we found out that her cancer is still on it's early stage. God is good. and i pray every day that she'll be fully recovered. do share your thoughts/experiences.
