LED light source repaire

I have a 1989 325i BMW conv with an in dash clock/trip computer that the LED display has gone dark. The device works because I can see the time, etc. in certain light. I want to know who or how to replace the light source. I know it is possible because a local teck fixed my radio display. Can't find him!
