"Reading is to the mind, while exercise is to the body"When i am reading an specific book and i encounter a difficult word, i get the context clues on that so that i can understand what is the meaning of that difficult word, if not i will consult MR. Webster Dictionary...and when i know the meaning of that certain word, i share it to my friend, and used it in the sentence... How about you? what did u do if u encounter an unfamiliar word? Do you consult immediately Mr. Webster Dictionary,? Or do the same as mine?

usually i just base on the way the author used the word. if it's spoken by a character, i also base it on the way the listener reacts to the statement. if that doesn't work, i reach for the thesaurus (because it's quicker and more direct to the point than your typical dictionary). my last recourse is the dictionary

If I come across a word I don't know the meaning, I look it up in the dictionary. That way I know what it means and will try to remember it. When our kids were growing up and didn't know what a word meant, they would ask what it was. Even if I knew the answer, I'd tell them to look it up in the dictionary. I wanted them to learn on their own. Sometimes I would just give them the answer, though.

I can't be bothered to do this lol . If I come across a word I am unsure of then I will ask someone that is with me at the time and if there is no one around then I just skop the word and make sure to ask when I see someone . I wouldn't even know where to find my dictionary anymore lol .

If I dont understand a word in a book I check the meaning usually online. Otherwise I do it through the old ways -- by the book. Same like you I consult Webster's Dictionary. I find it irritating when I have the meaning at the tip of my tongue but for some reason I cant get it out of my mouth. Does that happen to you as well? And my problem is I need to have the answer at that moment otherwise I wont be able to do anything.

If I can encounter such unfamiliar word to me and if there is no any dictionary around,I try to read the sentence repeteadly until I would come to realize the word how it is being use in the topic.I just analyze the sentence how it is delivered. When I get into the house or any place where there is a vocabulary I search for the word immediately, otherwise I write it down for me not to forget.

I try to get its meaning from the context and if I don't get its meaning I'll consult Webster's.

When I encounter an unfamiliar word or even a difficult one, I consult some references so I can check on the meaning and/or the spelling. If I'm browsing the web, I use online dictionaries and other free web references like translators. When reading books, I usually have my handy dictionary beside me. As soon as I encounter a tough word, I just go through the dictionary, gets its meaning, and reread the particular line or paragraph with the difficult word.

at first i re-read to try and work out the meaning of the word from the sentance and take a mental note to look it up later, but if I can't i'll ask someone around, if they don't know i'll either go to the libaray and pull out the ol' oxford or look it up on the wiktionary on the www.

I keep a dictionary right beside me when I start to read a new book. My son also gave me a book of slang words, just in case I run into any. I have found a few that I couldn't find in either book but from the way the writer used it I could still understand what it was ment to stand for. I encounter a new word almost daily when reading books written by John Grisham Most of his books pretain to the law so they are not in the Webster dictionary, they are mostly Latin. Thats when I write them down to look up later on the 'net. You will be surprised what you can find on the 'net when it comes to some words.

well i would agree with everyone and do as all the others do .i ll keep continuing with the contect and see if i can get the meaning of the word.or else i ll check out the meaning on a dictionary else i ll mark it down and check it out later.in most cases it resolves with the context itself.

If I cannot figure out an unfamiliar word from the sentence or paragraph I will always look it up. I no longer know where my dictionary is but dictionary.com is in my favorites and a very well used website by me. I love words and learning so it is very important to me to understand what I am reading. When I was still living with my husband I would always ask him first. He was a walking dictionary!

If I encounter an unfamiliar word, I'll usually ask my partner if he knows what it means. Nine times out of ten he does so he'll explain it to me, but if he doesn't know, or he's not home, I usually check http://dictionary.com online to find it. It's quicker than thumbing through the pages of the Dictionary to find the word and it's just as up to date.

Whenever I encounter an unfamiliar word, I will reread the line and then try to figure out the meaning of the word. Then I also check the dictionary to be sure that I have the right meaning. = )
