In our modern age when there is many food sources out there, what gives us the right to still consume meat and why do we still do it?

Well for some people out there, like maybe about 13,000 people in this world do it because they try to be just like feline or canines, or bears. I know it seems inpossible, but it isn't. I know some people that're like that. And I'm just interested to know, what would you do if you were transformed into lion or something somehow?

I believe that since we are part of a big food chain and that we cant survive without this food chain that it is okay to eat consume some meat, such as hamburger or beef or steak or bacon, etc.,but I believe that it is not okay to eat other forms of meat such as dogs or cats,or any other animal that would be considered a pet.

i my self do not eat much meat. but some one has to. you take deer what if no one ate deer either they just shot them and leave them there or eat them. if they are not hunted there would be so many of them it would be a problem. same with any other animal if we don't do something with some of them then there would be so many it would cause problems for everyone. its part of life.

Because we are part of the food chain. Other animals eat other animals, it's a part of all existence on this planet. The reason for eating meat comes largely from the need to consume the various proteins and ensure a balanced diet. Yes there are alternatives to these food stuffs, but as onmivores we have the choice of what we eat. Providing the animal is farmed in an appropriate way then I have no issue with eating meat. Unfortunately we see too many examples across the world of poor farm management and cruelty to livestock. I totally disagree with that, but I agree we should be able to eat meat and indeed do eat meat myself.

I am also a vegetarian, have been for forty years. I also believe as you do. However, most people eat meat because they like the taste of it, mostly. And most people believe that animals are here for us to eat. I ate meat for twenty years of my life, and I just never made the connection that by my eating meat, I was also the cause of some animal being slaughtered needlessly, and that I was the cause of the suffering and fear of that creature. Once I made the connection, however, I stopped eating meat cold turkey. Alot of people think they need meat also to be healthy. Well..I've raised 3 children as vegetarians, and now they are adults, and still mostly vegetarian (they eat fish sometimes), and are as healthy as anyone, even more so. I am, too. It's just a matter of learning how to be a vegetarian, which isn't easy in this country (America). It's easy in India, where vegetarians are a majority, not a minority.
