My favorite literature character would be Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen's novel: Pride and Prejudice. She's my favorite because her way of thinking is the same as mine. Elizabeth is a lady who follows her own mind and heart and doesn't listen to the dictates of society. She didn't even listen to her mother when her mother wanted her to marry someone she didn't love. Elizabeth is a strong lady who isn't swayed by what other people think. She's intelligent and witty. I so can relate to her in a lot of ways = )

Have you read the follow-up book Sone of a With? Elphaba's son is the main character and his mother's influence provides more insight into her personality. I think you'll love it. Mrs. Miniver is my comfort book, the only one I always return to in times of distress- but I have so many characters I love encountering again and again. Kay scarpetta from Patricia cornwell's mysteries is one.Merrilee Watkins from Phil rickmans' mysteries is another. She struggles with the politics of her church, her natural mediumship, her brilliant and eccentric daughter, her responsibilities as a clergywoman, the eerie atmosphere of the village she lives in and the surrounding ones she visits in Wales, all with such an earnest determination to be a good person and a worthy priest. She has a gentle sense of humor, a kindness that comes across as wonderful strength given the seriousness of her obligations. Hope you get acquainted with her.

I actually didn't care much for 'Son of a Witch'; it was really just a story, not the profound work that 'Wicked' was. I will have to take you up onn your suggestions, though.

Kind of you, thanks, and thanks for writing a thought provoking post. I was stunned to realize I can't off the top just say who all I enjoy reading about. I recognize author's names or character names when I see them but I don't write or remember the list. shocking! thanks for the nudge to keep track.

There are so many that I hate to pick just One! If I had to choose only one as a favorite, I suppose it would have to be Treebeard from the Tolkien trilogy. Although, Peter Pan, Faithful Joh, and Robin Hood were influencing me a lot earlier, Treebeard represents so much in the world that I admire. Hmmm, I'm awfully fond of Walter Slovotsky and Jilly Coppercorn though too. Hmm, Wouldn't want to be hasty! Tough Choice! Wishing You Laughter

That's interesting. Are you very, very familiar with 'Rings' and 'Pan' as novels, or are you mostly just going by the movies?
