I might get a turtle in the next few months and was wondering what I needed for it. What do they eat, what do they need in their tanks or whatever and what else do I need to know about them?

I Have got a few long-neck turtles. If you are looking at getting some turtles here is a small list of things that you will need. *UV light *Reptile License *Large Tank *somewhere for them to get out of the water I have got 2 turtles that are 3 years old and 2 that are 2 years old. I feed these ones a product called "Fish Dinner" i also have some baby turtles that have only just hatched, these i feed blood worms. Hope this information helps.

Turtles need a lot of special care. They need a tank that is large enough to have both a dry and a wet area. They also need a UV light to get the treatment they need. There is special food too. The pet store will have all the information and equipment you need.

Turtles are a lifetime commitment and care would depend of the kind of turtle you're getting. Basically, they need a tank, UV lamp, turtle food or fruits and a whole lot of love.

Dear Reclusex4, You must first determine what type of turtle do you want, Do you want a land based turtle or what they called tortoise such as Sulcata, Do you want a semi-aquatic turtle that lives in water and also need land to survive such as Red Eared Slider or Do you want a terapin or those that lives on water alone and just vist the land just for egg laying such as Sea Turtles and Leather Back Turtles. The need of each type varies the maintenance needed to make them a good pet. You must first know what type of turtle you want before I can help you out in your other needs in the pet care. A water turtle needs an area for light. They make floating docks that floats on the top of the water and suctions to the glass to keep it steady. The tank should be about 15 gallons per turtle or more. A filter to keep their tank clean. A UV light above the floating dock to offer them with a healthy life.

Turtles are awesome. In some cases need less care then fish, and in some cases more. The essentials include a large enough tank for the turtle to grow, some basic turtle pellets from walmart or the pet shop, a rock or sand area that allows the turtle to go outside the water, and a light. The turtle will prefer a heated light, but this is not essential. Once the turtle is big enough you can feed it feeder fish or goldfish. My turtle stopped eating the fish because it thought they made better pets, and because of such I have reverted to the walmart turtle pellets. The most important thing is enough space and a method to get out of the water. Enough space is needed because the turtle will poop -- alot. Infact, any attempt I have had (even when very small) to put two turtles in the same tank always ended up with one killing the other because their is just too much waste in the water. I suppose cleaning the tank every day might avoid this, but that can be quite tedious. The reason the turtle needs to be able to get out of the water, besides it's own comfort, is that turtle shell root will occur otherwise. I have had my turtles, at times, without a method to get out of the water and it was ok. I made sure to keep the water very clean to ensure no shell rott, though. Turtles make great pets. They don't need constant attention like cats and dogs, and they are actually quite smart. I would get into these "blinking" games with my turtle where we would both close our eyes, and then the last person to open their eyes lost. Sometimes I would catch him peeking and then he would close his eyes real fast incase I didn't see him looking.
