My friend bought a laptop yesterday. She wants to install the latest Windows vista version. Some friends said Linux is a better option as it's faster than Windows. Can you suggest which one's better?

Well both have their benefits and drawbacks. Anything sold by Micro$oft is overpriced and a resource hog. Linux is free and fast. Windows though is more user friendly and getting help is generally easier since most of the world uses that OS. Linux though is open source and people who know the system REALLY know the system. A properly configured Linux system will outperform Windows time and time again. Security on Linux is as tight as you could ever want. Windows is a snap to install and configure, where as Linux takes patience and understanding. Over all Linux is the better system, however the draw backs are its complexity and that you have to know what you are doing in order to use its full advantage. I would recommend Linux to anyone who is computer savvy, but Windows to a user who has no interest in learning about the system.

Windows version of OS is quite user-friendly and as far as Linux OS is concerned, its more about security rather than being friendly... So i would suggest your friend to go with Windows Vista...

Does ur friend even knows what's the configuration of the laptop has to be to meet Vistas standard? And the cost? And the support, the anti sypware, firewall, blah blah blah. My pick would be Linux...but I'm pretty certain 'she' would settle for Window XP ;-)
