That's anything but a bad habit. To me, it's a good habit which I enjoy cause my cat is telling me he loves me alot. Only thing my cat does thou is to lick my face. Any part of my face that's available, he will lick. Only time I discourage him is when his licking is starting to hurt (sandpaper tongue). Then he just switches to another area. Don't discourge your lil one from doing that. It's his way of showing you how much he adores/bonded with you. :-)

My cat Silver does this to me all the time. He'll suckle on my shoulder sometimes until it is totally wet. He's done it ever since I've had him. I did some investigating and found that this behavior usually comes from him either being taken from his mother too young or not getting enough attention from his mother. When I first got him he did it constantly and now he doesn't do it as much. It seems when he's feeling insecure about something, such as when I added 2 new strays to our home, he started doing it a lot again. He thinks of you as his mother and I find that if it helps him feel secure, go ahead and suckle. The blouse or nightgown or whatever I'm wearing is going to be washed anyway.

This is an expression of affection and love, do not take it as a bad habit. Anyway, if you dislike this practice, just react normally and let him understand that you are not encouraging it. Our pets are clever enough to understand our feelings, likes and dislikes, so, sooner or later, he will leave this practice. Anyway, it is their very natural instinct, so, you could do better to handle it tactfully so that he never feels deprieved or deserted.

It is NOT a bad habit, it is an expression of love and affection. You should be blessed that your cat loves you as he does. All 4 of my cats show their affection that way.

With all due respect to you and "Medoro" I'm saddened by your phrase BAD habit. SIGH... I have one now, and have rescued many who were not left with their MOM long enough to get through a Nursing/Bonding/Closterum process, yet want to experience it even with a Human keeper. THIS IS YOUR PET, gee, "Erleichda",,, what's so difficult to engage in but being LOVED??? I truly hope that laundering a T shirt/blouse/ whatever,,, is less a task for you than enjoying a BOND as your pet also does. Steven Wolf
