Longer School Days

Has anyone heard about the increasing school days in some states? What do you guys think about this? Do you think this is actually beneficial to students, or do you think students get enough schooling along with their homework, etc? Personally, i think that school days are long enough, especially with the homework given. However, maybe some of you could open my mind by giving me some opinions?

I agree with you. School is just getting to be too much now, and with homework it is pretty much consuming kids entire lives. I am in high school, and if you want to be successful you are supposed to take the honors and AP classes, which have a ton of work and projects. I feel like i hardly have time to do my own things, sometimes I think I am even more busy with school than my parents are with their daily work and errands, lol. I guess I am not really opening your mind, since all I am doing is agreeing with you. :P

I have not heard this and my daughter is only in kindergarden but I know if the school days were longer she would not like it at all! She is doing good where they are now and she does get tired/bored sometimes. The kids need to have time to relax and be kids, they can't be in school 24/7. I think the time frame is good how it is now. I hope they don't change anything.

I just read it in the paper today. I think the days are long enough. Some kids in our county have to ride the bus for 1 1/2 hours each way just to go to high school. I know because I was one of those kids. We lived the farthest from the high school than anyone. Adding more time is uncalled for. Many times, it would be dark when we got home from school and we still had to mike the cow and feed the other animals before dinner and then do homework. It is too much. Kids will be too tired to learn

Yes I read about this today. I personally think that a 7 hour school day is long enough. I am all for a good education but, I am also for a well rounded education which includs many things not learned at school. After a student has attended school for 7 hours, spent travel time to and from school and then has 2 to 3 hours on homework there is little time left for other learning experiences.

Wow! Has anyone read Ferenheit 451? The book is set in the future and kids go to school pretty much as soon as they are born and for most of the day. I am just really glad that dh and I are able to stay home and homeschool our girls.
