Is it bad to eat Cookie Dough?

Its possible you could get sick from the raw eggs, but I look at it this way. From the time I was little, any time my mom baked cookies she would let us taste the cookie dough. My sister and I in highschool used to make the dough just to eat it. Now as a mother when i make cookies I eat some and so do my kids. Nothing bad ever happened to us or anyone i know for that matter.
