some one ask me this so I am asking all of you very smart pople How long is each brach of the military's enlistment contract? In other words how long does one have to serve in each branch. I know for the marines, it's 4 years active and 4 years inactive. But what about the rest? Also, what is the shortest enlistment time the military offers? Where can i find out more about all this info? I checked military.com but didn't see anything regarding this question.

For us here in Ireland it's seven years but you should be able to find it online in any of the military pages, sometimes you find it under the frequently asked questions section. Hope that helps!

For the Army, it depends on your contract. Most people sign a contract for four years, but with some jobs, you can sign a two year contract or a six year contract. It depends on what job you choose and what options you are given at the place you sign your contract at.

Each branch has it's own time amount that you can re-enlist for the Army and Navy you can re-enlist for blocks as little as two years, The Air Force the minimum re-enlistment period is 4 years. However, with each branch there is also an extension program in which you can extend your enlistment for shorter periods of time. While I was in I extended once and re-enlisted twice, but the extension was a process and I only did it to allow myself more time to decide weather I was going to re-up or not. In the end I just decided to re-enlist.
