I sprained my left ankle 3 days ago, on Friday and it is still not healed. I do not know why and its really bothering me. I have NO medical insurance so I have to guess what is wrong or go to a clinic if I have to. I havent had a sprain since I was a little kid. I have been icing my ankle at least once or more a day. I keep it up as well. I DONT have time or nor the chance to KEEP it up ALL day and night. Could this be why its not healing? Mind you I have been able to walk on it the whole time, I just slightly twisted it when I missed a step on the stairs. But its still sore to walk on at times. Any help is great! Thank you for the help!

Ice it several times a day for about 15 minutes at a time. DO NOT ice for longer than 20 minutes..it can actually do more damage than good. when you're not able to keep it elevated..keep it lightly compressed..like with an ACE bandage. it should be snug NOT tight..being tight restricts the blood flow and will make it take longer to heal. try to stay off of it as much as possible. a minor sprain can heal in as little as a week, more serious sprains can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks to heal. but since you have been able to walk on it, it doesnt sound too serious. give it at least a week of the care listed above. if it seems to be getting worse, or has not healed by then...go to the clinic.

Coldone make an ice compression wrap for the ankle/foot. The wrap will stop pain and swelling while the injury heals; however, rest and elevation will also speed the healing. You can see the wrap at http://www.coldoneinc.com/ankle_wrap.html Good Luck

It does take awhile for a sprain to heal. you can do a search online and get some pointers. The best thing I have ever done and used for a sprain is I took an ace bandage, dipped it in vinegar and wrapped my ankle. It did not smell very good , but it healed it within 24 hours. It is an old remedy, way before modern medicine was so prevelant. The good thing is it works!
