I have been using AVGfree from Grisoft and so have a lot of other people. (I actually asked about it on mylot too) AVG still offers a free version, it uses very little resources and it protects very well. You get regular updates free and there really is nothing to complain about with it. If you are looking for something that doesn't slow down your PC then AVG is it. All the best!

Hi, to your concerns, if you would mind, why not give a try Avira AntiVir Personal Classic Edition. It is very light on resources. It does not use a lot of memory, and therefore does not slow down your computer, provided your SD-RAM must be at least 128 MB. I have installed this software for almost two years ago. Since using it, I have never encountered any problems at all with regards to the overall function and system performance of my machine. Otherwise, I am so grafeful and impressed with its performance. One of its features is to update on a regular basis and this can be scheduled at your most convenient time. This can be downloaded at www.free-av.com. For your questions, you can visit forum.avira.com. Hope this would help. Have a great day!

I'm using AVG and I absolutely adore it. Norton used to interfere with some of my programs and give me problems, but this never happened with AVG:) I strongly suggest that you all give it a try:D
