How to become a Pharmacy Technician?

I'm a college student interested in becoming a Pharmacist one day. Right now I want to get a Pharmacy technician license so that I can start working and at the same time get experience. How can I get the license and if I need to take an exame for it what are the recommended books I should use to study for it. I have also heard from a friend of mine that a law in California (where I live) was passed that a pharmacy technician course must be taken in order to get the license and so far I've researched this up the web and California government site and haven't found any such law. Thank You.
