Holding hands

Some people are afraid of holding hands with someone or they don't feel comfortable about it. They can stick their tongue down someone else's throat, but somehow holding hands is too "intimate" :D Do you hold hands sometimes? With whom do you feel comfortable holding hands? Your kids when you cross the street, maybe? :) I'm a bit of a germophobe, so I always worry about other people's hands: are they clean, are they sweaty, will they be sticky, what have they been holding? The first thing I do when I get home is take off my shoes and wash my hands! It's just the way I am. I wouldn't make a good politician, cause they're always shaking hands... lately, I heard some of them use those desinfectant foams! Guess they're worried about germs, too! An annoying thing is when couples are walking down busy streets and they're holding hands, but they're far from each other, it's very inconvenient! So listen up people: if you're holding hands with someone, why not get closer together? And to those who are parents, don't just leave your kid hanging from your arm without taking notice! Some people just walk, walk, walk and the child gets distracted and therefore stays behind a little bit and ends up bumping into everybody else that's walking in the opposite direction, because they can't see the kid (hidden behind the oblivious parent)!

I always hold on to my grandchildrens hands when we are in a crowded place because I am afraid we will get seperated and I will hold my husband's hand if we are crossing a busy street. Other than that I don't like to hold hands with anybody. I don't like having to give the sign of of peace at mass, and I only ever give it to my husband and family members as I never know where other people have had their hands last and what germs they might be carrying. If somebody offers me the sign of peace, I would be too polite to refuse but I carry a pack of wet wipes in my car and I wipe my hands with these until I can get home and give my hands a good wash.

We give the sign of peace by shaking hands with those around us and saying "Peace be with you". Some people overdo it and want to shake hands with almost everybody in the church. Drooling and kissing would put me off ever going into a Church. Yuck!

Oh, i see :) Most people here, in city churches, don't usually do that, but I've seen people doing that (and generally greeting each other) in smaller (village) churches. Drooling is quite a turn-off in any circumstance ;)

Yes I know what you mean, holding hands is so simply nice and yet some people do seem to afraid of it and in other areas they feel so comfortable it is strange, maybe because holding someones hand is a loving thing to do makes some people a little put off....

Yes, this intrigues me quite a bit... touching someone else's hands can be seen as... how to put it... an advance of some sort. People can go dancing and rub their bodies against 50 strangers at a time, but if someone touches hands, it's an awkward moment? (LOL)

Ahh holding hands, I love to do that especially with my husband but he doesn't like it particularly when we are out. Sigh, so much for me wanting it..lol He is just the kind you described in the very beginning of the discussion. I don't mind holding hands with only my husband and don't do it with others. I too am worried about germs and also worried constantly where their hands have been..LOL

Indeed, I share your concerns! ;) Some people feel embarrassed about public displays of affection, I think that's quite common. In any case, it's better than those young couples you sometimes see in the subway, they start making out to the point where it becomes embarrassing for everyone else! (LOL) One time I was sitting next to an old man and a couple were making out in public, he started to talk to me, cussing them out loud! Awkward moment, I was bit like, "Eh... don't get me involved in this discussion!" ;)

Holding hand is nice. I do enjoy doing so with my lover. As to your child thing, well I have to say I am guilty of this sometimes. Sometimes your kid just won't listen and you end up essentially dragging them along. I try to avoid actually running into people with her, and I don't think I've actually had that happen, and I think I would notice.

It's good that you try to pay attention, some parents completely forget about their kids, one time, I saw a couple getting out of a train and they had a child on one hand and luggage on the other, the little girl almost fell under the train tracks! They were completely oblivious and if someone else hadn't intervened, she could've gotten hurt. The mother was especially rude too, because, so oblivious was she, she didn't even realize the other person was trying to help her, she gave the man a snobby look, like "what the hell do you think you're doing holding onto my child!". Incredible negligence!
