125 + million Pet dogs

We love our pet dogs, feed them, license them. I just found out that the population in the world is tremendous:

There are some pretty amazing stats, and certainly, a lot of people do spend too much on their pets, but I don't think we are doing at the expense of the people starving in Africa.
As I understand it, we produce more human food then we need too to feed everyone on earth. The problem is we also through out way more then we need too, but at the manufacturing level as well as retail. I think we could do a lot more then we are doing to help out.
And besides, isn't a lot of dog food made of horse meat? Or is that just a myth??

I can understand that if you have 2 Great Danes. That sure is a lot of beef! I've only ever had smaller dogs...
As you say distribution is the big problem. If this could be sorted out, I think amazing things would happen over there...

For people who love animals it is very hard to compare what we do for them to what we cold do for countries in need. For some of us those pets are family and to deny them would be almost the same as denying our children.
While there is no doubt far more money is spent than need be it is something that is close to us and easy to take care of. Providing for people in other countries that are far away is not so easy. And it is a concern to know that some charities that are provideing help to those people may not actually be using that money wisely.
But regardless the reason it comes down to what everyone cares about most. And that is a sad statement of the human race.
