Reading all responses...

In the rules, MyLot asks that we read both the discussion and ALL responses before responding. That leads me to a couple of questions. One question I have is how many of you actually do this. I have to ask because I see the same questions asked repeatedly throughout a discussion. I realize that occasionally someone may miss something, but when something is asked 10 times already, it can't just be an oversight. My other question is this. If MyLot really wants us to read all responses before replying to discussions, then why do they send us the alerts the way they do? The alerts come to us with a link to respond directly to the discussion, but no link to view the ENTIRE discussion.

In the real world if you have over 100 responses it is VERY hard to read all the responses in that one discussion. I read a few. I think MyLot was aiming for people to not just answer like everyone else and get paid for no thought. Most of the time someone has already said what I was thinking, but i say it anyway in my own words. I have always been able to read the responses from the MyLot alerts.

In answer your first question yes 9 out of 10 times I read all the responses prior to responding to a discussion. The only time I don't is if it's asking about a personal experience say from your childhood, then I read some but not all as even if someone had a similar experience mine will still be unique. I have noticed after posting a response that 3 others at the same time I was typing mine came in before me and said pretty much the same thing. For those I'm sorry that I repeated it wasn't intentional. If a discussion has lots of responses more than 50 most of those I don't respond to as after reading the first page all have said what I would have said and since mylot states to not respond unless you have something new to contribute I skip. As for your second question I don't know why it takes you immediately to the response section as it clearly violates what they ask us to do. I always go through the link to the profile and then search for the discussion. This way I get to read all the responses and it gives me to review other discussions that I might be interested in responding to. I think that mylot should change the link at the bottom of the email to go to the discussion so that we can read all the responses and not just give our own. I hope that they will change this feature on their next upgrade. One last thing I had been working on a similar discussion, great minds think alike. Great discussion. :)

I can understand not reading them for those asking about personal experiences. I don't always read all of those either although it is often a good way to get to know some of our fellow mylotians. I know that my experiences will be unique to me, so it won't matter if someone else has a similar experience. In addition, I understand that sometimes it takes a long time to go through pages of responses, so by the time I read them all there may be several duplicates. If so, it isn't intentional, but I'm sure it happens. I certainly hope that they will change this feature to at least allow us the option to view the entire discussion, rather than only allow us to respond to it. By doing things the way they are now, they make it difficult to follow the rules.

I generally read the responses. Sometimes all of them, sometimes not, depending on how long the thread is. I try to go through and rate them. If they are talking about personal experiences, to me part of the discussion is getting to know each other better so it doesn't matter what the other responses are.

That's true, it's nice to get to know each other, but not necesary in order to give a quality response.
