Does anyone have the same problem as me. My DD hates going to the bathroom at home on her own she always likes me to stand either inside or outside with her, she seems nervous especially if it's dark, even though i always have the lights on. Also she is notorious for not flushing afterwards or washing her hands, but again i think that's in order to exit the bathroom as quickly as she can... Anyone got any ideas

She's probably afraid of the flushing. I know it's silly but I was when I was little and now I don't even remember why. I either wouldn't flush or flush and then run out of the bathroom as quickly as possible.

thanks for that, i think it's more the fear of being on her own, i too remember being nervous in the bathroom. I know she also has a thing bout not pulling the plug in the bath until she's got out of it in case there's a spider trying to get up the plughole

sorry no ideas i have got kind of the same problem myself though with my son, he wont go if there is anyone around him he doesn't like being watched. if no one is watching he'll do a number one on the potty but for a number two i have to put a nappy on him and if i dont he'll hold it all day till i put a nappy on him when he goes to bed which is definately not good for him

HJow old is your daughter. i'm assumoing she isunder 7. By then, they learn shame and embarrassment, anddon't want anyone watching or listening. You might want to ask her what is in the bathroom that scares her, and don't be surprised at her answer. Many kids are afraid of the toilet, after having one slip while learning to use it. you may consider putting a childseat on the toilet so she can be sure she won't fall in. As for the hand washing thing. yeah, kids just don't think to wash their hands as often as they should simply because they don't LOOK dirty

thanks judy, sorry should have said she was 5 years old. i will ask her, i don't think it's the toilet itself, she's been using it now for three year, but i will try to get to the bottom of it 9if you pardon the pun!)
