Modestah gave me a great Idea about using up my plastic grocery bags,I would like to make a good sized rug for out on the deck or in front of the camper and was wondering if anyone else has made one.Wasn't sure if the plastic would be really slippery when it got wet.It would be easy to shake out I'm pretty sure.and would save the sand coming in when at the beach,or in campgrounds.

With all the extra grocery bags we accumulate, it would certainly take care of some. This sounds like a great idea and it could just be picked up and rolled for storage till you get to your next destination.

oh, those would be great uses! you are right too, the sand would sift down through the matt and not be carted into the camper so readily. I do not know the answer about slipperiness when wet, but I would think due to its texture from crochet knots, it would provide some friction against slipping. I suppose you could make a piece of the rug before you put too much effort into it - get it wet and try it out. Then if you find it would be too slippery, just convert it into a tote bag?

A neighbour of mine made me some place mats out of the plastic bread bags, crochet, because I love purple she saved enough bread bags with the purple colouring and made me a whole set of place mats and one large centre table one, it is amazing what you can do.

Please give us the instructions on how to use the grocery bags to crochet! I get so many of those bags and hate trying to recycle them. It would be really great to make something useful from them.

What a great way to use up those extra-unwanted bags! I've seem people make grocery bags, out of the grocery bags, but never a rug! LOL! My only concern would be, some bags are made of cornstarch--instead of petroleum, and made to disintergrate at time goes on. It would just mean it would need to be replaced. :) Good luck with your rugs!!! I Hope taht you post a photo when they are done.

a friend of mine also does this-she gets a spray latex type stuff for the back so it doesn't slide all over the place. sometimes she'll throw a bit of sand on the latex also before it dries to add more no-slip to it.

thank-you for the useful tip! I was thinking of sewing on some of that non slip rubber grip fabric you can get in the houseware departments - over with the contact and shelf paper.
