OK, so we all ahve names, and nicknames, but when your parents were deciding what to call you, what other names did they consider? What were you almost nearly called? As for me, i was nearly called Kathryn, but apparently my mum's cousin names her child that just before she had me so he couldn't use it. Also, she nearly named me Fia, after a character in a soap that she liked at the time. I ended up with Helen, btw! So, what are you nearly called? Are you glad you weren't?

My parents were going to name me Chelsea Bleu. They decided on just Bleu. If I had been a boy like they thought, it would have been Blue, but they felt Bleu was more feminine. As I said on another topic, I have no middle name because they wanted me to use my last name as my middle name when I got married - but I have never been married so that didn't work out so well! While I am definitely glad I was not called Chelsea (no offense to anyone with that name, I just don't feel like a Chelsea) sometimes I don't like being called Bleu either. In school I was every other color you could think of and nobody ever spells it right. That is the worst part of it. I do kind of like having a unique name though, people rarely forget it.

For the first day or so after I was born I was Heather as that was the name my mother liked best from the names they had been talking about but the rest of the family (my dad, 2 brothers and sister) weren't so keen so they decided to take a vote on the list which was: Heather Lorna Gail Sharon And thats how I ended up as a Sharon, it was the one with most votes. I wouldn't have minded being a Heather, actually one of my daughters is called Heather, out of all the names the only one I'm not so keen on and don't think would have suited me is Gail.

My mother's maiden name was Gilbert. Unfortunately, having only one sister, there was no one to carry on the family name. Apparently she had plans to call me Gilbert. I'm so glad to be a girl!

My nickname is care or carebear or caro and my sister, for reasons known only to herself, called me crayola for a very long time. I'm also called arturolyn after my violently tempered grandfather. I've got the red streak, too apparently. But now I usually go by Carolyn -- I don't like to have strangers call me by my special family nickname of care. Before I was born, my parents were sure I was going to be a boy (ultarsound techniques 25 years ago were not what they are today) and they had the names Phillip or Roger picked out. I'm glad I'm a woman :)

My parents kidded (at least I hope they were kidding!) me that if I were born a boy I would have been named Wolfgang Heindrik.... for short they would call me Wolf Heiney. They have called me some pretty interesting names over the years, but none as traumatic as Wolf Heiney would have been!
