How do you make your own website?

Upon the recommendation of a member on this site, I signed up as an affiliate to a mobile phone company... they say it's easy all you have to do is create your own website which links to theirs which is linked to your verification code... it looks great but I am ignorant as to how you start a website? I joined one of those freeweb sites and now I am completely lost!! Does anyone have any advice, coz I really need to start earning some cash!! LOl If it really is that easy then of course I will put all info here on this site!! Why be selfish huh? Lol!

What i found helped me when i was doing my first website was to download website templates from the internet. Then you have a base to work from. If you want to make any changes you will need to use a bit of trial amd error. Just save a copy and have a go. its easier than it looks. You should go for html for your website aswell, because i think its the easiest language.
