What is the etiquette here?

This seems like a stupid question but what is the proper etiquette here for posts. I've noticed that it take me hours to get comment notifications when people respond to my posts and that I rarely get replys to comments I've made. Is that the standard here? Should I be responding to every comment in the posts I make the way we do on lj or only respond when I have something to add or a question about the comment? I'm new to this type of forum so I'm not really sure how it's done. Thanks in advance for any help on this one.

It is not necessary that you leave a comment on every response made unless its necessary. I do that too and refrain from saying just "thank you" on every response. On the other hand if you respond to a discussion, you may or may not receive a comment in return because most people don't go back to check on the responses on the discussions they've started. I read and rate every response that comes my way. That is the right thing to do. Nowadays I'm finding it difficult to get back to discussions I've responded to, to check if a person has commented on my response, it is a time consuming task to locate the discussion and then my response on that discussion. when I come across the discussion I take a quick peek. I wish myLot had a better way to let us access our responses.

It would be nice if it were easier to check back sooner. I keep comong back to lj on this thread but there you get emails when people respond to your comments and it has an option to take you directly to that section of the thread. You're right about the rating like I said above I'm putting a post it not on the side of my monitor to remind me in the future.

You can comment if you want to say something, but you don't have to. I think Mylot says that you shouldn't respond just to say "thank you" but I do sometimes.

See that's just it I have this compulsion to reply to everything and it's very hard to remind myself not to, but I know that's what MyLot wants and I am afraid people will find it annoying if I do. I just have to keep reminding myself that this is not lj.

I think etiquette-wise, it would be better to respond to some comments, especially if the response to the discussion was well-thought of and merits a back-response. This could help boost positive ratings and good reputation among friends or among other myLot members. In my case, I try to check once in a while if my recent discussions had responses, and I comment back. It would be nice to know that someone has read one's answers. Also, it would be very nice to thank the respondents somehow. I do this on recent discussions only (within 2 days) because if there are so many respondents, it would be difficult to keep up. Besides, the later responses usually are repetitions of the previous responses.

I like this idea as well, looking back and replying to those that look like they've been given thought to and aren't repetive. I know what you mean about being heard, there have been posts I've replied to where I'd have really enjoyed discussing things more and sometimes it feels like dropping coins into the abyss. Thank you.

hello freind, well,I think you don't have to response to every response, also you must have a topics with good quality not just start new topics, try to always tag your discussions and responses, well, for responses,I read that you should have at least ten responses in order to get paid for your responses.something else try to rate every discussion and response you read.

Hmm, that is interesting that you need ten replies before you get paid. I was wondering about that myself. Thank you for pointing taht out to me about tags I forget them a lot and I'm just now starting to remember to rate everyone for their replies. I'll just have to write myself a post it note so that I remember every time,

only comment when u have a question or want to add more into what the person said to ur discussion. if they get it(they'll be emailed) and if they have something to say back they will respond. good luck=)

Thank you for that advice. I have never gotten an email stating that someone replied to my comment. Of course the replies are rare so I suppose it could just be an e-mail error, I hope I didn't set anything up wrong on my account!

There are no stupid questions! Well, sometimes, maybe, but this isn't one. I've just gotten here, really, but I've replied to most of the comments left on my posts. I'm not sure that many people go back and read them, but it feels more like discussion that way, and just just a Q and A session, or something of the sort. Of course, if it's a comment that really doesn't leave much for me to reply, I don't touch it. I haven't gotten a lot of comments to my discussions yet, but I suppose when that happens, I will probably comment a bit less? I think as long as there's something to reply back with, go for it.

Thank you for letting me know that wasn't a completely idiotic question. I agree I much prefer discussions to question and answer sesions.

I think it depends what time you log on... most of the people on here seem to be in the U.S or far East so they are getting up when I am off to bed!! Also, I reply to everything!!!! I dont know if there is an etiquette, i think its most likely people speed reading and getting wht they can on in the hope to get more money. Anyway, heres a response for you... before you start getting paranoid lol!!

LOL! Thank you. I've noticed that myself with the time thing. I'm in the US (Detroit) but at times I get replys at 3 and 4 am, It seems a bit odd to reply to them 8 hours later since I'm so used to lj where most of my friends are on the same continent at least, but I feel so horrible for letting them sit!
