Poisoning ourselves?

India

I went through this interesting story on the BBC a couple of years ago. There is this small unassuming village in a remote part of Southern India. It is at the foot of a large hill. The hill is covered with extensive cashew plantations. Every year before the rains "ENDOSULFAN" a chemical pesticide is heli-sprayed over the whole ranch. During the rains the pesticides run downhill and poison the only source of drinking water for the whole village. The effects are staggering: every child born in the village during the last decade is born crippled. Having attacked the animals during the last decade, has man decided that he is done with animals, now is the time for man!!! Wot say u?

I say that is pretty sad. Why dont people care more for the enviroment and the effects some of the things they do have on other people? It so.. selfish, thoughtless and uncaring...

And now comes the saddest part of the story!! even two years after the press disclosed this story the saga of endosulfan still continues. Enough harm has already been done to the village. The images shown on tv were all extremely graphic. And our money hungry businessmen havent even cared!!!
