Ok everyone most of you know my little Fellow Gissi as I am always going on about him lol, well .....
This little Man has developed a bit of belly on him lol, yes I know I spoil him, I was talking to a Friend on the Phone and Gissi as usual is lying there listening with his ears up. Anyway I said to my Friend "Do you know this little Fellow is putting some weight on here" and she replies "Yes I did notice that last week" So I say to her "I think I need to put him on a Diet" well at that precise moment Gissi just flops himself on the floor and put his paw over his head, yes my Dog had collapsed because I mentioned DIET. Now all I can think of why he has put this weight since moving here is that he has not the cat to chase anymore because he wants to Mate her (yes he got a bit confused because she was the same Size as him) or he now has his food to himself and noone there to pinch it.
He does have his daily walks so it is mot that, I think it is because he hasn't got the Cat to chase round the House anymore, as he was keeping pretty fit trying to mate her.

Ha-ha, he sounds like me, I collapse form hunger at that D word too. lol.
I think you need to get a cat to keep him company, just make sure it can run fast before you bring it home!
Give him a big hug from Polly-cat who says she's pleased he's not after her!

Oh wow you are funny Gaby, about the diet that your thinking of putting Gissi on, and what he did lol ...and that Gissi wanted to have mate with the cat, you know yourself animals especially I found that the dogs are extremely intelligent and no wonder Gissi, does need to go on a diet due to he cannot chase the cat any more. lol

Oh boy, Gabs... that Gissy is so cute and funny! You too, with your interpretations of his reactions to certain words.
I think maybe the cat might have something to do with his putting on weight but also, I seem to remember you telling me he had no garden to run around in any more. Also, at the mention of the word 'diet', he probably hid himself in shame at having put on the weight, and I can imagine that going through his mind was, "Oh no, not that old chestnut! What is she trying to do to me?" ha ha ha
Brightest Blessings, Gabs... I like this tale. ;-)

Gissi sounds like my Izzy so much from the instant attachment tome to the part about chasing the cat.I believe she thinks she is a cat. She does not like other dogs, but will groom the cat. She will not play with any toys, but will go up to the kitten and paw at him until he starts playing with her. It is so cute to watch a cat and dog play. I wonder if Gissi and Izzy would play like that? If you lived near me I would suggest a play-date for them, I bet they would be friends seeing as they both think they are part cat!

sounds like you dog has personality! My pets all have personality too. My puppy is starting to put on weight. I cant wait till spring arrives so I can walk him more. He hated being couped up like this.
LOL So your dog was trying to mate the cat? LOL

Lol, the thought of the dog trying to mate with the cat has me in fits of laughter!
It does seem as though its because he's not as active as he was before lol.
I had to giggle when you were talking about him collapsing on the floor at the mention of a diet too lol.
Maybe get him a ball and throw it in the backyard for him to chase and retrieve. that way you'll both have fun, it won't wear you out, and he'll be getting fit again.

Gissi is more human than dog, I think. I noticed that very intelligent dogs are able to understand what some words mean, tone of voice and facial expressions. Poor Gissi has to go on a diet. No wonder he reacted the way he did. Lol.
He needs a cat. Will you be getting him one?

Well, would you consider getting him a female mate after he´s finished his diet? He´s probably getting fatter because he needs chasing females. That shows you that he´s a healthy dog. If only he didn´t run after cats.
Maybe he prefers cats to dogs, lol.
You could always try to see if he fancies dogs as well, as soon as you feel better.
Take care, gabs.
Hope you will recover soon.
Warm regards
Dana

Gabs, you are so funny. Listen, Gissi is young, right? Pups have tummies. Or, he could have parisites. Check with the Vet before putting him on a diet. Show us his picture. He sounds so adorable.

I had to put my Schatzie on a diet as I spoiled her rotten after I came home from the nursing home (she is still spoiled rotten but not with food). The vet said to put her on "light" food so I started giving Science diet light and following the recommended feeding guide lines. In a couple of months she had lost 1.2 lbs which sounds like nothing but to a 7 lbs dog that is a lot. The vet said she is perfect condition now and I sure didn't want her to have heart trouble or diabetics which is common small dogs. Now my little one didn't know what diet meant but like Gissi she does now. LOL

I can just see Gissi putting his paw over his head. Like he's saying, "Oh the HORROR! The AGONY!" That would have been funny to see. I have a couple of cats that I have nicknamed "Tubbo" and "Wideload". When I call them that, they look as if they have been SOOOO insulted! LOL

awwwww that is so sweet. However, ive heard before of dogs particularly putting on weight when they move home and their environment radically changes. From the dogs point of view, his whole world has been turned upside down, in order to regaqin control he will eat more as he is feeling threatened.
However, it could also be that he no longer needs to keep himself slim to try and attract the cat, blessed be

Why not just get poor Gissi a mate? The poor fellow is lonely. He needs a little female companionship, don't you think? Of course, I do think that it would be better if you got him a dog instead of a cat.

That is funny. I always have thought that animals understand what we are saying. Putting his paws over his head. You should have taken a picture of that. I bet that looked funny. You know not to mention diet when he is around. I bet he misses the cat. Yes, I would say not having the cat around to chase has been responsible for him gaining weight. I love the discussions you have about Gissi. He sure is a special little fellow.

i would say he is probably depressed and needs a cat friend to keep him company and play with. People had told me in the past that animals get depressed, i never belived them. That is untill this past may and we had to put our one cat to sleep because of kidney failure and her adopted brother did become depressed not having her around. LOL of course another stray cat has come into our house and lives and now he is mad, lol but he does have a new friend and now isnt depressed anymore
