wasted time ahead?

im 56 this year and planning to retire from my 32 or so long years in government service. five of my co-employees who have retired earlier were already laid to rest, to include my former boss... for want of things to do or no logical plans beforehand, when the first month or so of their retirement, they indulge in drinking spree with friends and/or sit in front of tv with nothing else to do. my question is... are there any retiree members around here in mylot who can give me idea(s) on what to do during my retirement days? do i have to follow my contemporaries wasting their time drinking/sitting day in and day out in front of a tv set?

Hi bosing sorry for the late respond I was busy with law class lately. How about raising a livestock and be a businessman I can see you are in province and one profitable and excercise routine is to keep yourself busy I think goat raising is one of the good livestock for now for it will not cost you feeds and more of attention just plant a grass or purchase a not so vast land and segregate the female to male so you can have them for sale on the peak time such as october to november or I can be the buyer of your livestock for we are in a kambingan business for decades that was my family businees and we goat are scarce during peak season. That was my idea because I was good at it my father teach me lol!!!

I would suggest that you get involved in some kind of volunteering work or a part-time job if possible. This would keep you occupied and engaged and would give yourself a sense of self-worth. You can even join local community groups and participate in the discussions. I would also suggest that you do not call it as "retirement" but as the next chapter or next stage in your life.

i've read and heard many testimonies of retirees. It's hard to break a lifetime habit of getting up very early, rushing to the bathroom for a quick bath and gobbling up breakfast and coffee, just so you can go to work on time. Working nine-to-five in the office everyday for 32 years or so has become a routine and instinct. YOu're always on the go, and each hour ticks like a bomb when you need to submit reports and attend meeting here and there. All these activities are so deeply rooted in your head that doing something else is like learning new things with clouds of uncertainty hanging over your head. You're antsy and uncomfortable and won't get into another habit. You're longing for the same environment and clock. In short, you feel like you've been robbed of something akin to life-sustaining device. In this case, I guess you should find something you did when you were still a child. That will keep you nostalgic and longing for something old and vibrant. Remembering the times when you were still a carefree or responsible kid, you will likely want to go back in time and find out that the things you've always wanted are the ones you've left behind decades ago. This is true for most retirees. I'm sure you've go some interests when you were still a child. Get into that habit. Sooner or later, you'll get into the same old habit and make something of it. Also, it would be good if you devote a few hours working out to keep in shape. When one is going downhill or in advancing years, discipline is of utmost importance. Your coworkers are probably rolling in their graves now that you've mentioned them and their "depression." Learn the lessons from them, but then it's still up to you whether to live longer. Good luck! (smile)

i'm quite far from retiring age so i'm not sure with my idea. when i reach that stage of life, i would probably want to spend my remaining life with my love ones. my siblings, my grand siblings, my husband, and other relatives. sorry for the lame idea...

oh, i see... i think enhancing any talent that you may have, LOL! for example, my self, i have a little talent like playing the keyboard (organ) but i'm so busy to pursue that, & you know i'm so so so frustrated to be in the band & become famous like having albums, concerts, etc.. i can't do that as of now, coz i also want to prioritize my mom's dreams for me,(and that really can't allow me to do what i want)so maybe i can only do that in my retiring age, but of course if i'm that old i can't join in the band anymore,LOL! i can just practice (focus,really..) so that i could teach my grand siblings, they might continue my dreams. how about that? i'm sorry my friend, i can't think of a nicer idea...

thats not a lame idea at all my friend. its part of the daily routine of a retired guy. what im talking about is in lieu of 9 to 5 work in ordet to ease a bit my being dislocated out of work. its like living besides a railway and everyday of your life you hear the sounds of passing trains and you were used to it becuz it is now your daily routine and its not a bother to you. suddenly, you and your partner transfered to a countryside for peace and quiet and one night in the middle of your sleep, you wake up! you think something is missing! and then you remember that you are now out of the rat race and the noise pollution that you are used to. thats how i feel if i will retire. hope you are fine my friend and thanks for responding...
