Are barking/shock collars for dogs inhumane?

I have never used one. I think if was for the good of the dog....like a dog that refusing to stay in the yard and keeps getting into the road. I think better a shock to teach would be better than ran over. They have humane collars that squirt the dog in the face when they back. I have never used but if just the barking I think those would be better.

Never new these collars existed, does sound bit mentally disturbing though.
