where does the surname Wijnaldum originate from

I'm trying to find where the surname Wijnaldum originates from. Ancestres came frome the Netherlands, Friesland and Boven Suriname, Carolina, plantage Phedra. My granfathers name was Mauritius Wijnaldum and he die in the 1900's in Suriname,, South America. Can someone please help me with some information. are you sure it has an origin?all sites say something about an excavation that happened there, there are many historical events that happened there but nothing about the origin or the meaning of Wijnaldum plus it a word only known in two languages one which is dutch(Wijnaldum) and the other is esperanto as(vinaldumo) :-(

I couldn't find exact information on your surname. I would assume however that the surname Wijnaldum come from the town - Wijnaldum, Netherlands. Since you said that your ancestors came from the Netherlands there is a pretty good change the surname originally meant someone who was from the town of Wijnaldum.
