Hi, I'm just finished reading the 4 Gospels, Acts and Romans. I'm wondering should i keep going? Are there any parts I should skip? Can someone who knows a lot about the Bible, please tell me what the most important parts are and why? thanks.

you have certainly read the most important parts, the key verses being John 3:18, John 5:24, Romans 3:23, Romans 6;23, Romans 5:8 and Romans 10:9. What to read next will depend on the reasons why you are reading the Bible, because the Bible is not a novel to be enjoyed or a text book to increase one knowledge although it can be used as such, so let me know why you are reading it and I might be able to help you as to what to read next

I'm not sure why I'm reading it, or I'm not really sure how to answer that. I'm reading to understand Christianity more. I'm reading to learn more abotu what it is to be a Christian.

Too much to put into one paragraph. But I think that reading the bible will not be enough. I think this will be learning that I will be doing as long as I live.

do you think that even the Psalms are important to read? I heard that they were early verses from the early churches.

Anakata, none of the Bible is chronological, so it does not have to be read in order. The book of James is very practical as far as daily living is concerned. The theme of James is "Be Mature" so this could be very helpful for you. The theme of Colossians is "Be Complete" and Ephesians is "Be Rich" (not wealthy: our riches in Christ) These two letters will help you understand our position in Christ. 1 John is also very helpful.

First of all, congratulations for finishing the 4 Good News and the Acts and Romans. \m/^_^ Next.. hmm.. You can go on. The most important parts of the Bible are all of them, because all are God's Word, after all. I started reading the Genesis, though, because it's the beginning.^^ Plus the Old Testament gives you a cleared understanding of those that which are written in the New Testament. I'm so happy that you're reading God's Word. God bless you, dear.^^

First of all, go for the Deuteronomy 13 where it says you should kill everybody who disagrees with you about your religion. Then go for Matthew because Christians will tell you that Christ thinks the OT is bullshit but that isn't what he says. http://debate.fgsfds.org/

I'm not a bible expert in any way shape or form however.... it has been said that if a person simply reads the bible for 20 minutes a day, you could finish the entire thing within 1 year. I formed a group of men who all go to my church and range from New to Old timers and we started on the very first page and are working all the way through it once a week. I would tell you the same thing I told my wife go out there and get a daily devotional if you going to read it on your own because it will give you all of the direction you need for any particular subject you may be interested in and then you can pick a topic for yourself.

Read it and soak it up. Dont just see how fast you can read . Even some of the best pastors in the world can read the same passage over and over and learn something new everytime. pray before you read for god to show you something new, and to give you understanding. Good luck and god bless.

Well done for reading as far as you have. :) Of course, I would not recommend that you skip anything and definitely keep going! ;) It is all important to read and understand. If you haven't already got one, I really recommend a study bible as well, as it will help you through the difficult passages and references. I use the New International Readers Version Light Study Bible - brilliant explanations and summaries of each book at the front. Anyway...if you tackled Romans and feel you understood it (and it is a heck of a difficult read!), I and II Corinthians are a natural progression. I really enjoy reading Paul's writing and that would seem like a natural continuation. Another very important read, in my opinion, and also a much easier (and shorter!) read, is I Peter, which summarises so much of the Christian belief and is very inspirational. If you are interested in reading about how Christianity was related to Judaism at the time, Hebrews is a very useful book; however, it refers a lot to Scripture (the Old Testament) so perhaps it would be good if you went back and read some of that first. In conjunction with reading the Bible, it often helps to read books about the Bible. I highly recommend a book by Philip Yancey called "The Jesus I Never Knew" - if you're interested in finding out more about Jesus, read this - it will give you a wonderful perspective. Of course, I tend to think that the Old Testament is just as important as it gives so much perspective to what Jesus came and did and it is a really fascinating read (just think how long some of those stories have survived!). In order to help you tackle it, I'd recommend reading "The Bible Jesus Read" again by Philip Yancey. This doesn't take you through the whole of the OT, just a few books, but it will really help you to come at the OT with a good perspective and it will point you to some of the really important books which might not seem immediately obvious. In the OT, I really recommend reading the first 5 books (Genesis, Exodus, Deutoronomy etc) for a good grounding on the Jewish belief and on the "beginning" of it all. Job will really make you think and if you're in search of some wisdom, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are really very helpful. I also love Psalms because it's an amazing collection of different voices and different people all talking to God and you can guarantee you will find something in there that matches your mood, whatever mood you are in, and that speaks to you. I have so much of the Bible still to read myself but I hope this helps to at least point you to some books to read. Good luck!
