help needed - fund raising, not scam: how to explain it?

i am helping a friend with the fund raising for a wonderful parish church in venice italy. donations from organizations and individuals, even small donations, are needed and welcome. i offered to spread the word on the net and try to reach foreign donors. i posted some messages in specific forums about religion, but my posts have been cancelled as they feared it was scam, but it's not. i provided the parish church's website http://www.chiesasansalvador.it also in english, and everything can be verified. so what else can i do to explain that these people are in need? where to look for help? any ideas?
