Pay phones are out ?

Pay phones are on the way out.Finland, home of Nokia, later this year will become the first nation to ditch pay phones altogether. No more phone booths will wait to embrace us on every block.Soon they will be gone. What I've been doing lately when my cell phone went "out of hydro",looking for the nearest pay phone.Do you think it will ever happen here in North America ? Quite scary stuff !

I sure hope not! While I do have a cell phone now, there are still occasions that a pay phone could be needed. What would you do if you had car problems & your cell wasn't charged up? Not everyone carries cell phones yet either. What are they going to do? I remember when my daughter was a baby & a pay phone was the only thing we had available to keep in touch with family or even call a doctor if we got sick.

I hear you. Will have to wait and see. Perhaps in distant future on this continent of ours. They are now concentrated in demand areas.Malls,Varieties,Subway stations,Hospitals. But if phone booths are close to becoming a symbol of our recent past, this brings up the question - where will Superman change now ?

Have they really been phased out in Finland? If they did, it doesn't seem to be a good decision. We still need pay phones in every corners although the pay phone owners' earnings would not been as lucrative as before.
