hi all here at mylot this is an unusal question but need some help. I have tiled floors througout my lounge room dinning and kitchen which it all in one area. And for some reason they feel as though there is a build up of floor cleaner. When i mopped the floor the other day. I Have been over the floor twice with just plain hot water to try and get rid of the slippery feeling. But it has not worked. My son likes to lick the floor also so i cannot use any chemicals on the floor. Any sugestions???????

I have this problem too. an environmentally safe cleaner is Simple Green. It is non-caustic if your little bundle of joy does give the floor a lick no harm. Otherwise, you should check at the local health food store or many grocery stores now have health food sections that sell safe environmentally friendly cleaners. You are right in not using cleaners not only because of your son but many cleaners are toxic, containing ingredients that can cause skin cancer. Many children that develop cancer at a skin site have had frequent exposure to bleaches, lysol, and other toxic home cleaners that parents use thining that they are protecting them from germs and vruses which ends up causing asthma, allergies and of course cancer. Worse case, the hot steam cleaners, you know the onles that puff hot steam on a surface and you wipe clean with a towel not only disinfect but remove scum.

If you apply bleach, and then use a normal floor cleaning solution, how about that? That's what I did when I moved house then and it worked fine. You need to work your son, get a pacifier for him and teach him to bite on that instead of licking the floor.

About the pacifier Ben has downs syndrome and one of the signs is a longer tounge than normal so he pushes it out with his tounge but tthanks for the sugestion. As for the floors i dont think i like the bleach idea. Thanks for the idea anyways.

I would be using a cleaner to kill the germs so as your son won't get sick. Tiles are generally slippery anyway especially when wet. I would be prone to wash with bleach diluted water then go over it again with just pain Hot water at least you have killed the germs lurking first and then gone over again to wash away some of the chemicals.

Thankyou for the sugestion. Only problem with bleach is the smell lol. I do use a floor cleaner its called floor and surface cleaner. I think i have been using too much when i wash the floors as i have one of those mops where you you have to spray or slash water. And there is no way of rinsing it out unless you use your hands.

I use hot water and a bit of white vinegar. It will clean the floor and cut down on the wax build up you seem to have.
