How do you comfort someone that has just lost one of their parents.

One of my best friend's mom just passed away and all I can say is I'm sorry and if there is anything I can do for you let me know. But I would really love to help her ease her pain.

Try to make her laugh. Also offer to just sit there and listen if she would like to unload. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it helps a lot more than one would realize. Also, maybe try to do little things likle cook her a dinner or rent a movie.
