American VAs

With more money and more effort being put into American dubs, the quality of voice acting has risen dramatically in the passed decade. Compare the dubs of the 80s with a dub of today and the difference is mind boggling. Gone are the days of garbled, bad translations and filtered sound effects. No more ridiculously high pitched voices or warbling embarrassments. Tis indeed a grand era of dubbing. So just out of curiosity, what are some favorite American Dub Voice Actors? I'm quite a fan of Wendee Lee and Laura Bailey myself, and of course Sonny Straight. Both Wendee and Laura have a range that's staggering, and Sonny Straight is just brilliant. It's no surprise that all three have been up for various awards - and Wendee is arguably the most celebrated female VA in America. Share your picks for VAs that deserve a mention.

Frankly, I'm not really interested in dubs. I mean, the americans can pour loads of money into the VA industry and still not have as many good VAs as the Japs have. And then there are all those really cute girly noises that americans just can't make. besides, too much of the dialog doesn't translate properly into english without losing its meaning

Kind of counter-productive to post in a thread celebrating American dubs then, isn't it? I mean, I don't care who likes what, but I've seen too many fights over dubs vs subs. Personally, I love dubs. I've been watching them evolve since the early eighties and I'm extremely pleased with where they are now. As for the dialogue, it really depends. For series's where the plot is steeped in Japanese culture and wordplay? Well, that's not going to translate well at all, either in subtitles or spoken dialogue. Translation is translation, whether it's spoken words or words on the bottom of the screen. As for the noises... maybe because I watch mostly shounen series's, but I haven't noticed anything like that myself.
